IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung is one of the biggest consumer electronics event held annually in Berlin, Germany. Throughout the years it has become a tradition for the biggest smartphone and tablet producers to launch their newest devices at IFA. The event served as a launching platform for big brands such as Samsung or Sony and has been the birthplace of numerous best-selling mobile devices.
This year, over 200,000 tech consumers witnessed for 5 days the launching of new brand devices, starting September 3rd with the Samsung Unpacked press release. Here are the best must-haves that the big brands announced to launch on the Android market by the end of 2014.
The launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge had been the most anticipated and expected moment of the event. The Galaxy Note 4 brings no new design features, but it has a more improved display quality which adapts to different lighting conditions, with a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and incorporating a 16MP camera that provides 60% more light for improved images.
While The Galaxy Note 4 was highly-anticipated, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge had been well received. What makes this smartphone attractive is its draping of one inch of the screen over the left-hand side of the handset. The company announced that the side part of the screen could have game-implications in the way users interact with their smartphones.
Additionally, Samsung added two more new accessories that connect with the smartphones but could also be used solely: the Samsung Gear S smartwatch and the Samsung Gear VR. Samsung Gear VR is a virtual reality headset accessory that uses only Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as its display.
Sony completed the trilogy with the release of Sony Xperia Z3. The company kept the Omnibalance design, making the smartphone more attractive by narrowing its frame to 7.3 mm and adding a more slim shape. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact were also launched at IFA 2014.
Motorola came up with its new Moto X smartphone. With a bigger screen, leather back and a faster processor this device is more likely to attract new customers.
Best accessories: Smartwatches
Although, it still sounds like fiction, Asus, Samsung or Sony have come up with some of the best smartwatches launched at IFA. This year, Asus released the Asus ZenWatch having a stitched leather strap, a 9-axis sensor and ideal for fitness lovers worldwide thanks to the Asus ZenUI Wellness App. The smart watch also connects to any 4.3 or upper Android phone.
Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch has a fashionable design, very similar to the classical wristwatch. Moto 360 proves that wearables can be as fashionable as Android Wear is functional, making it the first Google-powered watch worth owning.
But the LG G Watch R had probably been one of the most expected smartwatches of the event. Because a mini smartphone attached to the wrist did not seem efficient, most manufacturers took inspiration from the traditional watch design and therefore these accessories could be taken by being a common wristwatch. Aside, the elegant design, The LG smartwatch claims to offer better viewing angles in any light conditions, runs Android Wear and easily connects to Wi-Fi.
