A Frenchman in America offers foreign investors a chance to make profits in Florida real estate.
What services does your company provide?
We provide an opportunity for overseas persons to invest in the Florida real estate market. We specialize in government subsidized housing which allows our investors to both have a chance to see the value their asset increase while being sure of a stream of income from it. We also take care of all aspects of managing the property, so that it is a stress free proposition for our investors.
What did you do before starting the business?
I was a bank manager in south Florida, which turned out to be very useful. Because of that I understand the finance side of the business, and enjoy my friendly banking contacts..
Being French, what made you want to start a business in the states?
My parents sent me over to the US at a young age to develop English skills and hopefully find a career path. I decided to stay and found a great opportunity for business. I am French by birth, but I feel very American in spirit!
What was the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Gaining and keeping the trust of my customers. I work really hard to stay on top of each project and deliver what I have promised.
How do you differentiate yourself from the competition? Is your French nationality a factor?
I specialize in foreign investors who like my perspective, particularly in French investors. The fact that we speak the same language has allowed me to develop a unique niche in the market.
What do you enjoy most about working for yourself?
The freedom to organize my time. Being an entrepreneur requires a different time management system than regular employees, one that is about balancing your free time and your focus time, giving you a chance to make choices for yourself that are not possible when working for someone. I am infinitely more productive with this ability than I would be without it!
How would you describe yourself as a person?
I am competitive and a risk taker. However, I always have a Plan B. I’m not the social type, although I do manage hundreds of people. In business I can lead a team or direct a project, but in normal life I listen and observe. Traveling is a strong priority in my life. When I travel the world I am inspired by new places and cultures.
How would you describe yourself as a businessman?
Leadership is everything when you have customers and staff. So the gap between where we are today and where we want to be is something I always push my team to visualize. I use inspirational leadership a lot through daily meetings, presentations, debriefs of the day, all to enhance our progress toward the goal.
What is it about you that made your business successful?
I like to win. This has helped me through many challenges both personal and professional. I like to make things happen. I also like to mentor, which is a win for everyone. To grow and succeed, you have to delegate, delegate, and delegate. Finding the people whose skills complement yours allows you to operate at your highest and best level. It allows your business to run on all cylinders. It is a risk to hire, but that investment in developing new talent allows bigger results, all for the ultimate goal of having more free time for yourself to enjoy life.
Do you have any advice to any future entrepreneurs out there?
Learn from experienced people. You can improve your game, just like in sports when you play someone better. Develop good habits at an early age. Habits in subtle ways will define your future, so the present is the time to always be cultivating something better.
