Charles Rambeau, a young Frenchman who turned a love of video and a whimsical name into a successful advertising agency.
What kind of services does your company provide?
We are an audiovisual agency. We produce audiovisual content (videos or photos), for promotion, institutions and also cover events. Whether it is regarding photos or videos, if our clients want to be seen, understood and most importantly remembered we are here to make it happen.
« Tout le monde aime les pingouins » means « Everybody like penguins » Why did you choose this name ?
Because it’s true ! We recently asked “Opinion way” (a French survey institute) to make an official investigation asking people if they like penguins: 83% said “yes”. We conclude that 17% didn’t understand the question, but that is just our opinion. We wanted to build an agency at our image, something simple but efficient. Se we thought, why not have a funny and catchy name because lets face it : every one like penguins!”.
What evolution has your company known in the past year ?
We created the company 1 year and a half ago; the past year was consequently a “heavy” one! We have moved in to bigger offices, we employed new people, we increase by several times our turnover and made new clients every month. Two years ago we were 3 friends, on a couch, producing videos for friends and looking for bigger clients. Now we are 7 working for brands like RedBull, Roland Garros, Native Union, Fouquet’s Barriere Hotel, French national Basket-ball team, Evian Championship and famous French communication/event agencies. We had a quite successful year and we hope that it is just the beginning.
What did you do before starting the business?
I was finishing my studies at St John’s University in New York City. I had job opening with a famous French luxury brand and the beginning of my career seemed to be already written. When I came back to France, I realized that I really wanted to create something. As long as I can remember, I always loved media and videos. So I decided to build that project with some friends. That was pretty crazy, we had no clients, no office and we were unknown in the business; but we knew we had ideas and an unlimited determination.
Being so young and already an entrepreneur, do you see it as a strength or a weakness?
Honestly, both! At the very beginning it is clearly a weakness: You convey an image of an inexperienced guy; institutions like banks don’t trust you and the first clients are hard to convince. Here was our image at the time: Young guys, creating a company at a Crisis period. Once we managed to show good production and sign our first famous clients, everything changed and people finally saw our company as a successful and serious company and our age did not count anymore.
In your opinion, what was the most rewarding thing about starting your business?
The most rewarding thing about starting your business is to see that your idea works and that people like it! We saw the evolution in our productions, our clients and their budgets. And obviously, it is always nice to hear when one saw one of your videos and liked it. Employing people is also very rewarding; creating employment is important to us as we need our employees just as much as they need us. We build true relationships built on trust and honesty.
How do you differentiate yourself from the competition?
We actually asked our client why they chose us for their projects. Mainly, what they prefer is our responsiveness and adaptability to their wishes. Let’s not fool our selves, we know that we are challengers on the market, we have very competitive prices although our quality of work is comparable to all the big production companies. This is what seduces our clients.
How do you see the future of your company?
Things are going so fast that it is hard to plan the future of our company. For the moment the objective is to carry out bigger projects with bigger companies. More over, we are working on diversifying our skills in order to fulfill all of our clients needs, not only pictures and videos. In all, we hope to keep our positive spirits. We have managed to combine our passion and our work, we love what we do and our clients can feel it.
How would you describe yourself as a person?
I am a very curious person; I am interested in a lot of things and especially people. Being a people lover is, I think, one of the key elements to a good social life but more importantly a stable professional life. I always try to be one step ahead.
How would you describe yourself as a businessman?
In a general sense I try to pay attention, to the market, to our clients and most importantly to the people who surround me on a daily basis at work. It is important to know when and how to question yourself, this insures you to take the best decisions in the opportune moment. I aim for the best, I am a perfectionist and I do things to the fullest. I wanted to create a company whose core message resembles the one that I wanted to put forward which is: honesty, perseverance and trust.
